Movie Review: Transformers
Since I was 6 years old, I have dreamed about seeing my all time favourite cartoon in live action movie form. This was before I even knew what live action even meant. I have waited almost 20 years for this day to come and it was pure awesome.
Transformers the movie was (almost) everything I wanted in a movie that plotted giant alien robots against other giant alien robots. A lot of diehard fans were mad at a few things, that Optimus had lips, Megatron wasn't a gun, blah blah blah. I was a little skeptical about Michael Bay directing the film, and some of his not so great moments did shine through. The extended "getting the glasses" scene was a little much, but overall it didn't ruin the movie.
After the opening sequence I leaned over to my neighbour and said "I can go home now", seriously if the movie had just ended there I would have not been disapointed. The CGI in this movie was perhaps the best computer generated imaging I have ever seen in a movie. The robots did not look out of place, and rarely did I roll my eyes or think "that looks really fake". ILM really outdid themselves and that's saying a lot about the best CGI studio in the world.
The two things I thought this movie was really missing was the picture of the decepticon symbol(it might have been there but I missed it if it was) and the original themesong should have either played at the opening or at the end credits.
I will be buying this movie the minute it comes out on DVD and will probably be going to see it again. This has so far been my favourite movie of 2007.
Pros:
Giant alien robots fighting other giant alien robots.
GREAT CGI
Decent throwbacks to the old school cartoon.
Optimus' original voice actor was used.
It's freaking Transformers
Cons:
A few useless characters.
Bit too cheesy at times.
Not enough Starscream (his one massive scene was jaw dropping though).
A few missing elements that were needed for those final touches.
9.0/10
